Xamk is the 5th largest university of applied sciences in Finland. We provide education in eight fields of study, participate in research and development and provide services to the businesses and residents of the area. There are campuses in four towns: Kotka, Kouvola, Mikkeli and Savonlinna.

International cooperation is an important part of our profile, with more than 350 partner educational institutions around the globe.

Xamk is a strong implementer of RDI activities and it is currently Finland’s largest university of applied sciences in the field of RDI, based on external financing alone. There are over 170 ongoing projects annually, in which our experts find, test and develop new products and services, or conduct research for future needs.

RDI activities meeting high international standards are an essential aspect of our regional and social influence, enabling the creation of solutions for the needs of businesses and the world of work. Our RDI activities are divided into four focus areas. We work in these focus areas to create ecosystems that generate innovations, combining research, education and business activities. We systematically review the business proposals generated as part of RDI activities. The focus areas aiming to reach the international top include wood fibre research, data-based wellbeing services, digital and creative business and port and railway logistics.

At Xamk, you will get to build your competence in a way that benefits the whole workplace community by closely cooperating with local organisations and businesses, as well as our partner institutions and companies. Also, you can further improve your skills by participating in training workshops and development days, and complete studies free of charge via Xamk Open University of Applied Sciences. The personnel is also entitled to allocate a certain number of working hours to personal professional development.

The personnel of Xamk are entitled to comprehensive occupational health care services including e.g. specialist care as per the occupational health care services action plan. Also, occupational physiotherapist services and gyms are available.
