Doctoral Fellowships in Mathematics

Within the framework of the Swiss National Science Foundation project “Higher-dimensional geometric and combinatorial structures” two Doctoral Fellowships are available at the University of Neuchâtel. The tentative start date is January, 2018 (or at an earlier convenience). The deadline for application is December 1st, 2017.

Each position has duration of maximum four years. All candidates must hold a Master's degree, or an equivalent.

In addition to working towards their Doctoral degree, the successful candidates are expected to assume teaching duties, and to master a working level of French within a year from the start date. They are also expected to collaborate in research seminars and perform other related tasks.

The doctoral study will concentrate at the interface of hyperbolic geometry, geometric topology, group theory, and related topics (e.g. geometry of polyhedra and manifolds, as well as its connections with Coxeter groups and combinatorics). This is a promising research area within the modern mathematics.

These positions carry a competitive salary which starts at approximately 42'000 CHF per annum (gross income).

Application package should include:

  • a complete curriculum vitae (with a photo),
  • a statement of purpose explaining candidate's academic background, achievements to date and research interests within the project,
  • letters of recommendation (no more than two) which must be sent separately by the reference writers.

Preferably all applications should be sent by e-mail in order to receive timely consideration. Please bind your application package as a single .pdf file. Only selected candidates will be contacted.
